Career counselling services

What do Career Counsel sessions involve?

Career Counsel’s counselling philosophy is to lead open-ended career conversations to work to clarify the client's future options and possibilities in a well-informed and supporting environment. At the end of all sessions a positive written action plan with the client and family is produced.

How do Career Counsel sessions work?

We work using face-to-face counselling in sessions of an hour duration, using the John Holland's psychometric career interest test (the Self-directed Search) and narrative career counselling. Clients can expect to develop a straightforward action plan after just one session, follow up sessions and progress assessments are available if desired.

  • Initial one hour session (Including pre-meeting online psychometric test) $185
  • Follow-up sessions $165

What can we discuss?

Typical career related questions that can be discussed in a session include:

  • Extended tertiary options counselling in Victoria, Australia and Overseas, discussing pathway-based options;
  • Advice about experience building gap years
  • Strategies to develop employability pre and post tertiary study
  • Career planning for undergraduate routes suitable for postgraduate vocational courses (e.g. law, medicine);
  • Assistance in understanding the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) processes;
  • Information on university scholarships and Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS) for tertiary entry;
  • Interview practice for competitive admission to medicine and similar courses;
  • Portfolio advice for university applications relating to design, fine art or architecture;
  • Referral to other professionals where appropriate, (e.g. educational psychologists, occupational therapists, and private tutors).
